Guilin - en

Guilin is a touristic town, but first of all it is a large town with nearly a million inhabitants. Large boulevards, large commercial centers, cars - a modernity we had mostly forgotten in Vietnam. However the scale of the city is a bit too large for walkers like us.

However it is nice to be able to walk on the sidewalk without having to be wary of bumping into a motorbike or triping in a hole on the sidewalk !
As soon as you get away from downtown the buildings look a bit old. The Chinese also build a lot of collective buildings - another part of that change of scale from Vietnam.
Even the public spaces are well arranged. However Guilin is a tourist place which cares particularly about its looks.
In the morning, a breakfast with a French Galette des Rois !
Then a walk in the cold, cold town, along the river bank. A bit colder and it would snow.
Stopping under the bridge when the rain is too strong...
This doesn't prevent some brave souls from swimming in the Li river !
A tourist visit in the middle of the walk : a former administrative palace / examination center. The building had been destroyed by various wars before being rebuilt in 1947.

The regional examination center for the national mandarinate examination - each candidate had his own very small room.
Then we walked up the "Solitary Beauty Peak'
To have a wider view of Guilin, which looks like the Halong bay with buildings instead of the sea.

and finally we leave Guilin towards Yengshou, another tourist town sixty kilometers away.

Finally, we must say up to now we didn't find any good food - no good restaurants in Guilin ! everything is very fat. We mostly eat oranges...
