Last day in Hanoi

Leaving work one last time...
And after celebrating New Year's Eve in a very good restaurant, with a bit of wine...

A birthday breakfast...
A last picture of Hoan Kiem Lake...
And a last walk in the streets of Hanoi...

A last Cafe den da beside another lake...
We are nostalgic as we go to the Gia Lam train station, to take the train to Nanning. Not as large as the main Hanoi train station, but the broad gauge railway doesn't reach it.
Time to get in the train !
The wagon conductors show military discipline...
Who said one needs to go to Sapa to see Hmong people ?
The Dong Dang train station, on the Vietnamese side of the border, were the Chinese railways workers walk in lockstep.
On the Chinese side they get more relaxed. We have to get the luggage out of the train for a very cursory inspection... The night wasn't very restful, we had to wake up at 2am and 4am !

As we wake up, first Chinese landscapes, reminding Cao Bang in north Vietnam, very close from here.
We discover the Chinese cities, not as colorful as in Vietnam.
Right now, the Chinese are building many high speed railway lines...
It was the anniversary of the Hanoi-Nanning line, with a little celebration !
We're further north than in Hanoi, and it's much colder.
The impressing queue when I had to buy the train tickets to Guilin. The Chinese keep cutting in front...
The Nanning train station, quite monumental. A change from Hanoi !

In the train to Guilin, we switch car to get a bit more room...
Not interested by the commuter-train style cars !
We make friends in the train...
And finally, at night, after nearly twenty four hours of travel, we reach Guilin, our first stop.
